The Church

The Roman Catholic Church is a religion that was passed down from Jesus after he died on the cross. Catholics believe “in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus churchChrist, his only Son, our Lord who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell*. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.”(This is a prayer that the Catholics say to re sight what they believe.  This is called the Apostles creed)
This was a very big religion at the time of the middle aged and previous years.  It was practiced in Europe and England until the protestant reformation began. According to the Church, many saints where made during the middle ages.  It was a very holy time, and people worshiped God a lot more then then now.  More people respected the church and did not want to go against it.

The Catholic Church had played a big role in the Renaissance. Most people were Catholic until the reformation. There is a Pope who was in charge of the whole religion. He is the main person who made the rules and finalized ideas.

The Pope didn’t allow King Henry XIII to divorce. This caused Henry to become very angry with the Church and he broke off from the Church. This started the Church of England. And he ended up marrying many women and if they didn’t have a son to heir, he either divorced them, beheaded them,or let them survive.

*descending unto hell means he descended into Purgatory to retrieve the people that where there and send them to heaven, because now the gates of heaven where opened because of Jesus’s death.
